On The Air ALL ARTICLES SD TELEVISION STATIONS COOPERATE ON DTV CAMPAIGN JANUARY 18, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 27, 2007 Contact: Jay Huizenga KELOLAND TV (605)336-1100 SD TELEVISION STATIONS COOPERATE ON DTV CAMPAIGN South Dakota television stations are joining together in a campaign to raise awareness of the DTV switch scheduled for February 17, 2009. A joint public service campaign will inform television viewers how they will be affected by the change. KELO-TV, KSFY-TV, KDLT-TV, KTTW-TV and SDPTV in Sioux Falls, and KOTA-TV, KEVN-TV, KCLO-TV, and SDPTV in Rapid City will participate in the campaign. Each station will air public service announcements the first week of every month beginning January 2, 2008 and ending January 2, 2009. The announcements will air in the Sioux Falls area on Wednesdays between 6:00 am – 6:30 am, on Thursdays from 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm and on Fridays from 6:00 – 6:30 pm. In Rapid City, the announcements will air on Wednesdays between 6:00 am – 6:30 am, on Thursdays from 5:30 pm – 6:00 pm and on Fridays from 9:00 pm – 9:30 pm or 10:00 pm – 10:30 pm. The campaign will deliver a unified message about the DTV switch. This cooperative effort by South Dakota television stations is independent of their own individual efforts. The federal government has set February 17, 2009 as the end of analog television broadcasting. After that date, only a digital signal will be broadcast by all television stations. This will only affect viewers with older analog televisions who receive their television programming over the air via an antenna. Viewers with analog televisions can still receive free television programming over the air with a low cost converter box. Converters are expected to be in local stores early in 2008. Beginning January 1, 2008, free coupons will be available for converter boxes. The coupons will worth $40 towards the purchase of a converter. Converters are expected to cost $50 - $60. More information on the DTV switch can be found at www.DTVanswers.com. |
